Parts is parts.
Sometimes they're junk.

The score steppers were beat to crap. Ones and tens had wrong coils - A-23-650 for DU-23-740. 90 turns off would give some extra snap to a bumper but didn't do score units any good. Lots of other worn out pieces including some interesting replacements - some parts from one of the 1953 games that had score reels.
Sometimes they're not junk.

Got a box of goodies the other day. Traded some bits from the parts department for someone else's. The donor was a 2-player game from a lonely location and Skill Pool got the score counters from player #2. Yeehaw! Mechanical condition is about as close to NOS as one could hope for.
So... Now that those are installed(less than fun), I've about run out of things to do to the backbox insert... and there was quite a list...
Replay unit - kept the old 47-game screened reel and replaced the rest with shelf parts.
Match unit - coil plunger and stop were beat. Couldn't get the metal sleeve out of the coil. Couldn't read the numbers either. Coil, plunger, and stop replaced from the shelf. New sleeve from PBR.
Score relays - all beat up and coated with some weird residue(probably a lubricant of some sort). Replaced with more shelf parts.
Small bell got a new plunger and coil sleeve. Large bell got a new sleeve and got the plastic peg put back in the plunger.
I'm probably going to ruin someone's day here....
I'm wondering why the playfield looks so nice and the machinery is so beat up. Sticky lube residue holding grit would account for some wear. I think there's more than that would account for.
I think I may have found an explanation for the battered stepper parts.. and the battered bumper parts.. and the beat up relays..
Looking at bottom panel and find that coil feed is on transformer 'high tap'.
No problems with low line voltage here so I think I'll put that wire back where it belongs. I'll strip some wire from the coils if I feel the need for snappier bumpers.
